Competition Terms and Conditions for the  Short Story Prize Category

 

  1. Comedy Women in Print (CWIP)

  2. This competition is promoted by Comedy Women in Print, 15 Underhill Road, London, SE22 0BT  https://www.comedywomeninprint.co.uk/

  3. This promotion is open to all except employees of Farrago and Comedy Women in Print or their parent, subsidiaries or any affiliated companies and their immediate families, who are not allowed to enter the competition.

  4. Entry is via https://www.comedywomeninprint.co.uk/enter-2022 using the entry form and portal provided. There is no fee to enter.

  5. Closing date for entries is 14 October 2022. No entries received after 23:59 UK time on this date will be accepted.

  6. Entries from authors can be unpublished or recently published within the 18 months prior to the submission deadline of 14 October 2022. Authors must be able to grant non-exclusive worldwide English-language permission for usage of the story in the anthology resulting from this competition.

  7. Shortlisted entries will receive £100, the winner will receive an additional £1,000.

  8. All shortlisted and winning entries will be published by Farrago, in association with CWIP, in an anthology of witty women’s writing following the competition.

  9. The prizes are non-refundable, non-transferable and subject to availability. No guarantee is given as to the quality of the prize.

  10. No cash or prize alternatives are available other than as set out at numbers 7 and 8 above. 

  11. CWIP reserve the right in their reasonable discretion to substitute any prize with a prize of equal or greater value.

  12. Shortlisted entries will be selected by a judging panel based on the following criteria: The writing must be funny/humorous - it can be light-hearted, whimsical, droll, poignant, honest, abrasive, rude, bittersweet, dramatic, silly, sentimental, satirical, ironic, farcical – above all, the judges are looking for clear evidence of wit ranging from irony to absurdity, offering laugh out loud moments and a sense of connection. Entries are to be written by female (identified) writers and will be judged by an independent panel appointed by CWIP and Farrago. Shortlist announcement is on 22 February 2023. The winner will be notified at the CWIP winners’ event. The judges’ decision as to who has won the competition shall be final. 

  13. Entrants retain full copyright in the entries they submit. The shortlisted and winning authors of the competition will be required to grant non-exclusive worldwide English-language permission for usage of their story in the anthology of witty women’s writing resulting from this competition. ‘Non-exclusive’ means that the writer is free to place their story elsewhere also at any time.

  14. The anthology of witty women’s writing resulting from this competition will be published according to the publishers’ schedule within two years of awarding the prize. The publisher reserves the right to publish the anthology in the format of their choice.

  15. Any application containing incorrect, false, or unreadable information will be rejected. Any applications made on behalf of or for another person will not be included in the competition.

  16. The entry instructions are part of the Terms and Conditions for this competition.

  17. By entering the competition you are agreeing to accept these Terms and Conditions. Any breach of these Terms and Conditions by you will mean that your entry will not be valid, and you will not be allowed to enter this competition.

  18. By entering this competition, you are agreeing that if you are longlisted, shortlisted or win, your name may be used for the purpose of announcing the winner in any related publicity with CWIP and/or Farrago, however, you may withdraw your consent to this at any time.

  19. Any personal information you give us will be used solely for this competition and will not be passed on to any other parties without your agreement. CWIP privacy and data policy can be found at: https://www.comedywomeninprint.co.uk/privacy-data-policy.

  20. Under no circumstances will CWIP and/or Farrago be responsible for any loss, damages, costs or expenses arising from or in any way connected with any errors, defects, interruptions, malfunctions or delays in the promotion of the competition or prize. 

  21. CWIP and/or Farrago will not be responsible unless required by law, for any loss, changes, costs or expenses, which may arise in connection with this competition and CWIP and/or Farrago may cancel or alter the competition at any stage.

  22. Any dispute relating to the competition shall be governed by the laws of England and Wales and will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.
